One of the guarantees of life is that each winter you will find a time when it would be handy to have a propane heater. Sometime you are likely to find yourself working in an unheated garage or basement and need a portable heat source to prevent you from getting very cold. If you have not done something about it by now, you should take the time to purchase a propane garage heater to keep warm this winter.
A propane heater is not going to turn your very wintry room into a tropical vacation. While that may not be a bad wish you may need to lower the expectations. The heater will warm your room so that is more comfortable. You probably will not need the swim trunks however.
Propane heaters are much more economical than electric heaters. It may be cheaper to buy the electric heater initially, but the electric bill can cost you much more than the cost of propane.
While propane heaters are generally safe, you will want to be sure that you use the heater in a room that has some ventilation to prevent the build up of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is fatal to humans and pets. Airflow will prevent these problems. When using the heater outdoors, carbon monoxide is not as much a concern, but in any case be sure that you will have enough fresh air.
There are some other safety tips for use with a propane heater. Old paint cans or other flammable materials can present a safety risk if too close to the heat. Choose a heater that is equipped with an automatic shutoff. This shutoff feature turns off the gas if the heater is knocked over. An oxygen sensor will also shut off the heater if the oxygen levels drop below the required level.
Some propane heaters offer adjustable levels of heat. This gives much higher control as to the temperature of the room as compared to those that only offer a off or on setting. Also check out the warranty. The minimum warranty should be at least one year. In addition look for the CSA certification.
If you are tired of freezing while working in an unheated space, try a propane heater to keep warm as you work. The heater offers a less expensive alternative than heating using an electric heater.
